Greetings from batch ASASIpintar 16/17! We would like to provide as much information as possible for the next batch. I know its quite late since school is starting tomorrow (really? Since the posts by our seniors had pretty much covered everything (mostly still valid unless it contradicts with the information in our latest posts), we would just post them in summary + a little extra information.
You are encouraged to pm us questions that are not answered in any pos. T and we'll reply as soon as possible. To make it easier to access the 8 FAQs, I had compiled the links into this single tab. Till next post! FAQ 8: RESEARCH?PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS BASED ON 2013/2014 AND 2014/2015 BATCH'S EXPERIENCE. THERE MIGHT BE CHANGES ON HOW IT WORKS FOR THE NEW BATCH.Research was actually something new for us when we first went in.
From what I understand, it is a very crucial part of PERMATApintar as UKM itself is a research university. So, here's a brief look on it.In semester 1, each person will be given a supervisor who is one of the lecturers in Permata.
The superviso. R will guide you, especially on your report writing and they will help you to keep in track of your timeline. Oh yah, and they are the ones who will be evaluating you and giving you marks. Next, with the help of lectures in Research Skills class, you will first need to find your own field of interest.

It can be any field, be it medical, maths, bussiness, pyschology, education, etc. Then, u get to determine what question or problem statement u want to answer.
This will most probably be the first time for you to learn how to do academic writings, but lecturers will help u so don't worry. You will be allowed to select a mentor, someone who specialises in the particular field. For our batch, we have to email them asking for their permission to become our mentors. Mentors will be experts in UKM or outside UKM, depending on whoever suits you. Most of the time, they will be guiding you in terms of their expertises like explanation of certain scientific terms or methodology. You will also have to sacrifice a little bit of your time to meet them, in which you will find yourself travelling to and fro their offices.
At the end of semester 1, you will need to come out with a proposal.Semester 2 will be the time to conduct your research. There will be no classes. You will either find yourself doing experiments or distributing questionnaires, library research or other methods of conducting a research. Then at the end of the course, u will write a report and present your finding to your supervisor. Maybe you will face difficulties during the research, maybe not, but this is normal in life, right? Everybody faces problems sometimes.
No matter what, keep in mind that everything is for the future as these skills will help you when you are doing your degree.wink. Perhaps changes will be done in terms of research schedule (like when to start conducting experiments, when to start writing report, etc) for future batches. No worries, you will be provided a timeline as reference on when to complete certain things. Thanks for reading!:D. FAQ 7: How will life be like (or what can I expect) as an ASASIpintar student?ASASIpintar? What is it about? And how’s the life as an ASASIpintar student?
What should I expect? Hmm.Well, haha, basically, as an ASASIpintar student, that means you already come to a new level and no more leading the life as if in the secondary school. A lot of new things are waiting for you to be explored and learnt. Of course, no more spoon feeding and it’s the time for independent learning.Basically, you will undergo a life similar to university life, with more freedom but at the same time be more responsible with your studies and everything. Being here, you are expected to be on the way to become a more holistic person, not only academic-oriented, but also exposed to more, learn to think more critically, become more open-minded, know how to socialize with people, study how to be a good leader as well as working as an effective team, provided that you are willing to. At the same time, you should be expected to become more proactive in learning and know how to do research, and its skills.Yeah, there is no co-curriculum here, but this doesn’t mean you will solely study and sit for exam. For us, we got the opportunities to do activities such as group work, presentation, project making, debate, forum, filming, charity work etc.
And there are members in 13/14 batch who got the chance to join the Helicopter Smart Control Competition organised by ANGKASA UKM. For 14/15 batch, we got the chance to join IC-GATE held in Permata and we met a lot of recearchers from other countries who did researches on gifted education. At the same time, there are also a lot of events (not under Permata and ASASIpintar) organised by the university and also degree students throughout the years, such as SUKEM (Kejohanan Sukan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), residential college’s own carnival, musical festival etc. If you have free time and feel interested, you can join, of course with the prerequisite that the activities are open to all warga UKM. Yeah, forgot to say, ASASIpintar students are also warga UKM. And for sport-lovers, you can actually play the sport in the courts in UKM when you are free, haha.Healthy lifestyle. As alumni of ASASIpintar and a former member of Permata in the future, there might be expectations on you from the public as well as the university.
As such, don’t fear, fully utilise the 1 year to grow and learn as much as you can and surely you can fulfil those expectations and to be the best that you can.The important things are, when coming here, don’t seal yourself off nor isolate yourself from others. Instead, keep the good attitude you always have, be open-minded, always possess the enthusiasm to learn and try new things, willing to help each other, don’t be selfish and don’t ever give up. If so you surely can get used to this environment and achieve success. And an unforgettable and precious friendship might await you. FAQ 6: Bursary Holder InquiriesAbout Bursary holders, here are a few explanations about it. AsasiPintar is one of the pre-university programmes that are recognised by the Bursary. Bursary students will receive sort of a scholarship that includes your registration fees, your living expenses, Muet fees and accommodation fees, for both semesters.
However you will need to maintain a CGPA of 3.75 and above throughout your studies there to continue this scholarship. Furthermore, B. Ursary holders who manage to maintain their CGPA and receive a place in the listed universities (UKM is in the list also with other overseas uni, you can check if you want) will be awarded with a JPA scholarship for your degree studies. The admin permata is very helpful with bursary students' needs and problems. So juniors, no worries. Please remember your username and password since after asasi (especially the username and password if any you apply JPA, MARA, and JPA-MARA application after your SPM) you will have to login again to do the `sistem profiling bursary` for the JPA scholarship. Also remember to hold on to the original receipts for registration and muet fees. You will have to send them to Bursary to claim back the money.
