SecurityIn their infinite stupidity by a software vendor, Ipswitch has chose the following method to store their license information for this product. A folder named E177E04D548C4006A465EEB92D3DE021 is created in the System32 folder and has been granted EVERYONE FULL CONTROL rights. There are a number of subfolders here. Activation is possible by non admin users. Files are created in the Continuous Storage and Discrete storage along with a Test Storage folder. Some of the files are just names, some are just folders.
There are also corresponding folders created in the License-DLL folder. The kicker of all of this is that to deploy your license key requires more than these folders. If you activate the product while logged on as an admin, a key is created in HKLM called TrialLicenseKey though it seems to have no effect. The item that you need to deploy in addition to the folders above is an entry into%WIN%win.ini. These people think that writing to win.ini is still cool. Addiing the IPSwitchKeys section and value from your license should bypass the activation screens.Now.

Back to finding free, decent ftp products. NoteAs an administrator, you can automate the WSFTP Client installation by creating a silent installation file. The silent installation does not prompt the user for input, but instead gets user input from an InstallShield Silent Response File (.iss extension). A response file is a plain text file with sections of data entries that include information similar to that which an end user would enter as responses to dialog boxes during a normal setup. InstallShield Silent reads the input from the response file at run time. When you play back the silent installation file, no messages are displayed.
To view information about the installation, you can view the log file. For more information about setting up a log file, see To playback an InstallShield Silent Response File.Important: Depending on the installation type (clean install vs. Upgrade install), you need to create a unique InstallShield Silent Response File for each installation type.To record an InstallShield Silent Response File:From a DOS prompt, change to the drive where the install CD is located (for example, d:), enter: Setup.exe -r -f1'c:setup.iss'-r starts the WSFTP Client installation program in the record mode.-f1 lets you set the path and file name where the resulting.iss will be written. Make sure that you include the path and file name in quotations.Press Enter and select the installation options you want to use for the silent installation.
