Occasionally during the racing season even champions get lost andmay require assistance.All racing and fancy pigeonscarry a hard plastic ring on their leg which identifies its owner. Thefirst few letters on the ring indicates the issuing organisation, thenext two numbers will identify its year of birth, the remaining letter and numberswillidentify its registered owner.A racing pigeon may carry two rings oneon each leg.
One will either be a rubberband ring or an electronic timing tag, achip ring, these are used for timing thepigeon when itarrives back at its loft from a race.Please do not report pigeons that arenot in your possession. Owners cannot arrangeto collect pigeons that are roaming orflying around your home or garden. Youmust catch the pigeon first. When youhave the pigeon in your possession readand write down carefully all the lettersand numbers on the plastic colouredring.Before reporting a stray pigeon to anyof the listed organisations, first open the pigeons wingand check if the owners name or telephone number hasbeen ink stamped on the underside of its flightfeathers, also check the ID tags on its legs for mobiletelephone contactdetails.
